Our History
The presence of Catholic Mission in Dhariwal takes us back to the British Raj, when in A.D. 1938, a Belgian Capuchin priest of the Diocese of Lahore, Rev. Fr. Evarist, started a mission here. This mission established its roots in full depth under a British Capuchin priest, Rev. Fr. Lawrence, who arrived in 1956 and took abode in a rented house in Dhariwal town. In 1959, Fr. Lawrence bought land on the National Highway in Sohal, on the outskirts of Dhariwal Town, for a Church building and a Parish office. More land was purchased in the following years for agricultural purposes under the local Parish Station.
In 1969, the Parish received its first Indian Capuchin priest, Rev. Fr. Edward. In 1970, Rev. Fr. Symphorian Keeprath OFM Cap. was appointed Superior of Dhariwal Station. He made and dedicated the local Church building to St. Teresa of Lisieux in November that year. In 1971, he started an English medium school in the name of Little Flower English School. Later that year, Fr. Symphorian Keeprath became the first Bishop of the Diocese of Jullundhur, leaving the Parish under Rev. Fr. Guido OFM Cap., with Rev. Fr. Jose Kurian OFM Cap. as Principal.
In 1973, Rev. Fr. Tobias OFM Cap. constructed the school building. Later, several principals contributed to the school’s growth, including Fr. John Prakash, Fr. Simon Kottoor, Br. P. M. Peter, Fr. Matthew Ullat, Fr. Paul Koodapoozha, Fr. Martin Poothokaran, and Fr. Abraham (all OFM Cap.).
In 1988, the Capuchin Friars handed over the local Parish and School to the Diocese of Jalandhar. Rev. Fr. Mathew Nilappana was appointed Principal, assisted by Bro. Franco (later Bishop of Jalandhar). Thereafter, the Religious Sisters took charge of the School, with Rev. Sr. Liseuex Varanam FCC as the first Principal. The same year, the name was changed to Little Flower Convent School. In 1991, Rev. Sr. Annie FCC became Principal, upgrading the school to the 10th standard under the ICSE Board in 1998.
Succeeding principals included Sr. Merlyn FCC, Sr. Lucy FCC, Sr. Ancilin FCC, and Sr. Divya FCC. Sr. Annie returned as Principal in 2013 and retired in 2017, the year Rev. Fr. Joseph Manalumparayil became Director and began constructing a new school block. Sr. Soumya FCC served as Principal during this time. In 2019, Sr. Regina Paul FCC became Principal, and along with Fr. Joseph Manalumparayil, upgraded the school to the 10+2 level during the Golden Jubilee year. Rev. Fr. Jose Padayatty became Director in 2022.
